Now You See It (2014-2018)

Antonia Grove, Artistic Director of Probe, presents her brand new solo Now You See It; a powerful work of dance theatre packed full of evocative imagery and featuring a searing central performance by Antonia herself.

Written, choreographed and performed by Antonia, Now You See It brings to vivid life the internal universe of a woman contemplating her past and reconsidering her strategies for survival.

It is a dialogue between wonder and reason, reality and imagination, small ideas and mammoth consequences, Now You See It marries straight talking dance with story-telling, anecdotes and a little bit of magic.

Antonia has worked with award-winning theatre-maker, writer and performer Sue MacLaine as Co-Director and the piece features an expansive sound score created in collaboration with composer/musician Scott Smith, and an epic lighting design by Aideen Malone.

“a beautifully conceived piece that showcases both her technical excellence as a dancer, and her skill as a creator, dissecting and revealing the psyche of her character to the audience… a mature piece of collaboration, focused around the creative urge and talent of one person. This is the first work in which Grove has put herself at the forefront of all its creativity, and she has pulled it off. She leads us deep into to the heart of human complexity, and takes us safely back again, our perceptions altered.” ★★★★  Fringe Review

“a very well-constructed mix of story-telling both in speech and dance, bridging reality and imagination. This is her story and Grove narrates it with verve and determination…this one-woman show was a special gem. It kept me absorbed throughout with an eclectic mix of entertainment, illusion and challenging mental stimulation.” ★★★★ Dancetabs

Antonia Q & A:

Can you tell us what your show is about?

Developing strategies for coping with family members, difficult scenarios and life in general! Finding a way of making myself visible and finding a way to disappear. Interrogating facts and searching for the truth. Questioning what I might be missing. Channeling frustration and finding an expression through the liberation of movement and speaking out loud.

How and where will the work be staged?

This work demands a big and beautifully lit theatre space. It’s just me for an hour with a rich, visceral lighting and sound score.

Why should someone come and see your show?

Because its authentic, emotionally and physically charged. Because it communicates through story-telling and dance so the work can be felt and experienced on many different levels.

Where did the idea and inspiration come from?

The idea came from my head. From things I felt needed to be said. About experiences I felt others could relate to.

What sort of person is going to love this show?

Anyone who likes to see and hear real life experiences being untangled and interrogated. Anyone who has felt invisible or wanted to disappear themselves. For people with questions, people who love dance and people who love theatre.
